This is a stupendous ebony carved Spanish Colonial bust of Christ during his crucifixion--from somewhere in South America,bust was brought to the US by diplomatic family who settled in Virginia--over life-sized---28.5 inches high and 17 inches wide and 13 inches deep--head is carved ebony-rare high density hard, hardest tropical wood-plinth is rosewood--overall weight is between 30-40 pounds--few cracks to head where ebony dried-fill them or leave as is-overall condition excellent-no missing parts--this is a boldly carved and riveting sculpture--bust has indian features-most crucifixion portrayals of Christ reflect agony and sadness-this one reflects defiance--can you imagine the psychological impact on the peasants of this sculpture in a small peasant parish displayed during holy week ?------this not Christ the good shepherd--piece really belongs in a museum-over 150 years old

Extremely rare Italian hand-formed wax figure of a madonna standing on the world conquering evil in the form of a snake--believed to be called the madonna of the immaculate conception--the figure is attached inside a Baroque wood gilt shaped box 2 inches deep-box with madonna is 16 inches by 11 inches--hands of madonna are missing and there are losses to some of the background details--globe has some missing gesso--originally had a glass cover that was smashed years ago-wax on madonna has darkened-- the piece is over 200 years old-given the shape of the box housing it could even be older
