Pair of outstanding carved tropical wood helmet masks-polychrome and decorated on top with bent nails and feathers-12 inches long-8 inches wide and deep-masks have woven rattan and hand loomed textile to form cap for helmet-these are soiled and worn-thin, hairline shrinkage cracks on both masks-masks are sold as is, directly from native African trader--most certainly used in dance rituals-1930s or older-sold as pair-unusual masks-probably male and female

African carved tropical hardwood Fang dance mask-mask is unusual not only in format as it appears as an abstract newborn or pregnant woman but also as it appears to have been worn on the arm or shoulder-cavity appears too narrow for a helmet mask- it has eyelets for attachment-piece is 1930s made from one piece of bas relief carved wood-small chip on one foot-mask is filthy from dirt-easily cleaned-sold as found directly from native African trader-21 inches by 7 inches--6.5 inches deep-sculpture is free standing-one of a kind
