This is a icon that defies categorization-it depicts Mary nursing Christ Child which is not an orthodox theme-it is painted on very old oak panel when most are painted on linden or walnut-12 inches by 17 inches-the high relief brass oklad appears later and is marked in cyrillic-other then that there are no orthodox motifs on it--the painting is much older than oklad-age of painting is 18thc or earlier-tags indicate it was sold at Jackson Gallery-beautiful piece-probably an Old Believers icon

This is a 17thc Spanish Colonial Cuzco oil on canvas of Christ of the Earthquakes-from Bolivia-these paintings were in churches-throughout the country to protect the building from earthquakes-some from richer parishes were more elaborate, but always the same central theme of crucified Christ with at least two figures at foot of cross-26.5 inches by 21 inches plus 4 inches for appropriate frame-painting has been relined recently and cleaned--we have the painting as for the church who knows ? rare piece
