Uncertain as to origin-painting is beautifully painted oil on carton-colors are strong and appears to be by a European trained artist-scene is Balkan or Central European--architecture of building appears Roman or it could be a 17th century building by an Italian- examples scattered all over Europe--confounded by language in the signature- appears to be cyrillic- Serbian. Bulgarian or Greek ? - no condition problems -recently cleaned-17.5 inches by 14 inches-charming painting of mysterious origin-over 100 years old

Painting is from Austrian-Hungarian empire--about 1870--is oil on canvas-has been relined--it is 24 inches wide x15.5 inches high with a 2.5 inch frame--unsigned--well painted and composed--background certainly has Barbazion school influence--significance of painting is unknown--a Hassidic folktale depicted? Somebody poking fun at the equestrian capabilities of the rider? The dog going after the horse and rider really makes the painting comical--not for the fox hunting crowd--this is a rare scene in Eastern Europe of period that has disappeared--the painting is delightful
