Russian icon that depicts Orthodox saints celebrated during the month of May --ca 1860s-painting is high quality with gold leaf high lights in halos-icon shows wear, but is complete without restoration-appears to show wear where certain saints were kissed- Icon has traditional bow to wood panel and wood staves in top and bottom to prevent splitting-minor paints chips to edges-12 inches by 14 inches-1.25 inches thick-roughly 70 figures-most are named in church Slavonic painted script

Russian Soviet Socialist Realist oil on canvas-titled.A Break in the Journey-depicts Red Army soldiers on break from truck transport in a field-smoking, eating and enjoying life outside a bouncing truck bed on rough Russian roads. Painting is signed on back with authors name and dates in cyrillic .
Eveniy Starostin (1939-1977). Russian. oil on canvas. Height 88”, width 63” .
Born in Kazan on the Volga River into a family of artists. Graduated in 1967 from the Kharkov Art Institute. He exhibited throughout Russia and his works may be found in many important Russian museums including the Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
His style is Soviet Socialist Realism begun under Stalin; soldiers and sailors were a popular theme for the artist.
Provenance: Estate of Sam Cummings, once the largest small arms dealer in the world. This painting was one of two Russian paintings in his Interarms office in Alexandria, Virgina-- It has first class museum quality gilt carved frame--add 4 inches all around--painting was bought in London by Cummings where it was relined with fine Belgium Linen-no condition problems--Sam had an air conditioned office--painting is from 1980
