Very rare 17thc German sculpture of St Augustine--has the intentionally mysterious over sized hands--hardwood, probably walnut--has back hollowed out to prevent splitting--gold leaf estafado surface-minor chips-minor termite damage in the rear --termites are dead,dead,dead--piece appears to be untouched--very striking-39 inches tall-excellent deep carving--back chipped out with adz-base is integral part of sculpture and was not carved separately-solid-approximately 40 pounds

Rare bronze sculpture-17thc or earlier-was buried for years and excavated-appears to be a putti and was part of larger piece-perhaps a family crest-Italian--surface is naturally oxidized when buried-some pitting--piece has been mounted on rod in black marble base-rod permits piece to spin around, so position can be changed-sculpture is 15 inches high without the base-add 3 inches for base--piece 12 inches wide--unusual -easily 300 years old

Fascinating pair of carved, dark stained wood recumbent Lions-pieces sit loosely on original wood bases--pieces have great character-doubt carver ever saw a lion--losses to surface-one paw has been glued-but they are all there-except for the paw, pieces have not been touched--wood appears to be pine-maybe cedar-pieces over 200 years--pieces have a sphinx like appearance--base 24 inches long and 17 inches deep-size of lions 18 inches long and 12 inches high--great folk art-AMERICAN
