Well constructed iron mask-interesting design--seems to have its own spirit apart from its intended use-doubt it was used for foil, epee or saber fencing-gapes in front screen appear too large for protection-most likely Japanese martial arts helmet-- used in contests where sticks are used to do battle--helmet is exceptionally well made-heavy--can sustain blows- with internal side and head pads-straps on back should be replaced if you want use it in battle-15 inches high- 7.5 inches deep and 7.5 inches wide--if you do not wish to fight, put a ribbon on it-- wear it to the next costume party and you will win first prize

Compass came from Soviet ship stranded in San Juan , Puerto Rico--ship was sold for salvage but to survive crew sold compass prior to destruction of ship-There is no Cyrillic writing on compass so it is doubtful it is Russian--maybe made in East Germany or Poland in the mid- 20th century-liquid compass-still works-heavy solid brass housing-8.5 inches by 10.75 inches--nice looking instrument
